Military multiplayer FPS Squad enjoyed its first free weekend last November, and if you missed it or just want to play again now, you'll be able to in about six days. This second Squad Free Weekend celebrates the game's new Al Basrah map: Urban Environment, which marks Squad's "first major immersion in urban combat." Here's what it looks like:

"This map allows the Squad to dive into urban combat for the first time, with an expanded urban area and a larger surrounding playing field. With buildings up to 6 stories tall and fully accessible to enter, we expect the US military's dominant positions to be shaken up as insurgents can be anywhere in the city. Hundreds of windows may be riddled with RPG bullets, ready to ruin the infidel's day."

If you like the team's goals, you can take advantage of the 50% off offer, which will run throughout the free weekend from Thursday 6th April at 10 a.m. PST through Monday, April 10 at 10am PST. Al Basrah pre-stream will begin today; more details on this can be found at the bottom of this Offworld blog post.
"The team has become a deep military shooter," Ian Birnbaum assessed last October, and the early access shooter has undergone several changes since then.

Since its first US release in 2002, the game has gone through many iterations, all developed in the Unreal Engine.

"Now that time has passed and AA has accomplished its mission, it is time to turn to other new and innovative ways to support the Army in communications and recruiting," the post said.
"None of this would have been possible without our players, so thank you for your dedication and continued support over the years."

Six Days in Fallujah, a military FPS based on the real-life battle in Iraq, has been revived by a new developer and publisher after being canceled by the original publisher more than a decade ago.
Battlefield 5 Is A Military Fps (again)
Set to release on PC and consoles later this year, the new version of Six Days in Fallujah was developed by Highwire Games, the studio behind the main dessert Halo, and published by Victura. A tactical shooter based on the events that took place in 2004 during the Second Battle of Fallujah in Iraq.
With accuracy in mind, more than 100 Marines, soldiers and Iraqi civilians were interviewed to ensure authenticity. The camp depicts the six-day conflict that US Marines endured as they tried to retake Fallujah from Al-Qaeda. To simulate combat, developers Highwire Games claim to have created "unique technology and game mechanics" designed to recreate the tension and tactics of modern combat in a way that no other game does.
Six Days in Fallujah was originally announced in 2009 by developer Atomic Games and publisher Konami, but drew criticism from war veterans and anti-war groups. Incorporating a violent video game into a real world war — especially one that was not only remembered but considered unfair — was seen as controversial. This caused Konami to withdraw from the project. Although the Atomic Games were never officially canceled, news of Six Days in Fallujah slowly faded. Former Atomic Games CEO Peter Tamte has since founded Victura and has been working on a new version of Six Days In Fallujah since 2016.
"It's hard to understand what the struggle really is when fake people are doing fake things in fake places," Tamte said in a press release. “This generation in Iraq has shown a dedication and courage as extraordinary as any in history. And now they offer the rest of us a new way to understand one of the most important events of our century. It's time to challenge outdated stereotypes of what video games can be."

Sam Tamte was Bungie's Executive Vice President during the development and launch of Halo: Combat Evolved. The development team for the Six Days In Fallujah remake is led by James Griesemer, who was the lead developer of Halo and Destiny, with music by original Halo composer Marty O'Donnell. Many other former Bungie employees make Highwire, including a former director, character, vehicle and weapon artist. Victura said more details about the game will be revealed in the coming weeks.
